A new four storey public car park has opened as part of the McGowan Government’s $256.7 million redevelopment of Joondalup Health Campus.
The redevelopment is jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments, of which the Commonwealth has committed $158 million under the Western Australian Hospital Infrastructure Package.
The new car park has been built to meet current and future demand for public parking, increasing the public and staff parking on the site by 540 bays, to a total of more than 2,700 bays.
An overhead green and red-light system will identify available bays to car park users.
Other works in the redevelopment include:
- an expansion of the emergency department and staff multi-storey car park, which were completed late last year;
- a new mental health unit;
- a new 112 bed block, in a design to meet future demand;
- a new theatre;
- a new cath lab; and
- upgraded staff facilities.
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
“The Joondalup Health Campus expansion is a major boost for healthcare in our northern suburbs and will substantially enhance services for patients.
“This $256.7 million redevelopment will increase the number of hospital beds and deliver important facilities such as a new mental health unit, cardiac care unit, and surgical ward.
“It is fantastic to see this important project continue to progress, and this new car park is a significant milestone.
“The car park will ensure patients and visitors have easy access to the hospital today – and as the hospital grows.”
As stated by Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton:
“Works are progressing well on the McGowan Government’s major upgrade and expansion at the Joondalup Health Campus.
“The new car park will greatly improve traffic flow now, and into the future.
“I am committed to continued investment at the Joondalup Health Campus as the major hospital servicing the northern corridor.”
