The road crash response and general land rescue capability of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Urbenville Unit has been boosted with a new medium rescue truck.
Allowing NSW SES volunteers to operate more effectively when protecting the local community, the new $335,000 vehicle is equipped with the latest rescue tools for use during emergency incidents.
NSW SES North Eastern Zone Commander Gregory Swindells said the increased capability in Urbenville would ensure volunteers had the equipment they need to assist their communities.
“Whether it’s attending to general land rescues, or freeing people from cars, this Medium Rescue Vehicle is tailor made to give our volunteers everything they need to continue saving lives,” Chief Superintendent Swindells said.
“This new rescue truck will enhance the operational capability of the SES when assisting communities, and we hope it will also attract new volunteers to join our local team of road crash rescue operators.”
Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib said this was the latest vehicle to be delivered as part of the NSW Government’s NSW SES Fleet Replacement Program.
“We’re ensuring NSW SES volunteers across the state are equipped and ready to respond to calls for help from the community,” Mr Dib said.
“SES volunteers safeguard their communities during emergencies, and this investment will increase our volunteers’ responsiveness when the next incident occurs.”
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said the new rescue truck was a most welcome addition to the emergency response resources available in the northern region.
“The truck comes equipped with all the latest rescue and communications equipment and its arrival boosts our preparedness for all the challenges that will inevitably come our way,” she said.
“Our local emergency services rely on volunteers and being able to operate with the latest technology is much appreciated.”
NSW SES Urbenville Unit Commander Thelma Cook said volunteers had completed training with the new vehicle and were ready to respond to emergency incidents as soon as they arise.
“We’re really excited about having this new truck for our unit, and look forward to recruiting and upskilling more members,” Inspector Cook said.
