New road to link neighbouring beaches

A new $5 million road linking Kewarra Beach and Trinity Beach will improve safety and reduce congestion on the Captain Cook Highway.

Council today approved works to extend Miami Rd from Poolwood Rd in Kewarra Beach to link with Trinity Beach Rd.

The project, to be completed by 30 June 2023, will include an upgrade of street lighting to the existing Miami Rd, and Poolwood Rd and Trinity Beach Rd intersections.

Extensive community consultation resulted in endorsement of the current route, which will provide connectivity between the two suburbs and a more flexible and efficient local network for all road users.

The route will make it safer for children to ride between the suburbs and provide a vital second entry/exit route for Kewarra Beach residents.

It will also reduce congestion on the highway by removing the need to use the Captain Cook Highway to travel from one beach to the other and improve access to busy community places like Trinity Beach Sporting Precinct and the Trinity Anglican School.

Council has received a contribution of $2,483,333 from the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program for the $4.95 million project.
