New SA Police magnets to help save lives

A new South Australia Police (SAPOL) fridge magnet providing lifesaving information for both callers and emergency services personnel is now available. The free Neighbourhood Watch Safety and Assistance fridge magnets can be collected at any police station by members of the public.

The magnets remind members of the public which SAPOL number to call in which situations (Triple Zero, 131 444 and Crime Stoppers – 1800 333 000).

It also gives space for the household occupant to write next of kin and general practitioner details on the back of the magnet. This is priceless information for emergency services personnel when they attend households for various incidents.

Acting Superintendent Cameron Devey from SAPOL’s Communication and Engagement Branch said this information will help both the person calling for assistance and emergency services, particularly when there is a situation of high distress.

“While SAPOL is always available to assist when needed, it is important that calls to Triple Zero are reserved for emergency situations only such as a life-threatening situation or when a crime is occurring at the time of making the call. People can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 for general police enquiries or reports and Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous,” said Acting Superintendent Devey.

“In distressing or confronting situations or when there is a single occupant in a residence, it can be very difficult and time consuming for emergency services personnel to retrieve next of kin or GP details.

“Having these relevant details readily available on the magnet can assist SAPOL with rendering assistance and contacting key people. If the incident is medical in nature, being able to readily contact a treating doctor or ensure that the next of kin is aware, is of great benefit to all.”

Also displayed on the magnet is information on the Emergency + App and how you can find and join your local Neighbourhood Watch group.
