Commuters at Campbelltown station will soon benefit from a new shelter being built at the Hurley St pick up and drop off area.
The 16 metre awning will provide an extra 20 seats and four wheelchair accessible spaces. The shelter will have solar powered LED lighting for night time safety and fully glazed back panel to protect from the wind and rain.
The shelter has been designed to allow electronic display panels featuring community notices and advertising to be installed in the future.
“This is an area frequented by thousands of commuters each week who will now have increased protection from wet weather on those cold, windy and rainy days, particularly in the middle of the winter months,” Mayor George Brticevic.
“It will also help people during this era of social distancing to spread out along the drop off area and avoid coming into close contact with others when trying to avoid adverse weather conditions,” Cr Brticevic said.
Construction on the new shelter will be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.
The existing shelter will also be upgraded later this year, with a new awning built from the shelter to the bottom of the stairs leading to the bus interchange area. The awning will feature a multi coloured translucent roof as well as LED lighting.
