The Silverdome’s new floor has been delivered in time for tonight’s Tasmania Netball League Grand Final.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement and Sport, Rob Fairs, said the floor has been delivered as part of the Tasmanian Government’s $12 million redevelopment of the Silverdome.
“Community sport is significantly benefitting from these upgrades, with one of Tasmania’s premier community sporting events among the first to showcase the new floor at the League’s grand final tonight,” Mr Fairs said.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are delivering record funding to improve new and existing sporting facilities, for community and elite sporting groups.
“The floor is one of the most significant elements of the Silverdome redevelopment, providing a high-performance playing surface for ball sports at all levels.
“The upgrades demonstrate our Government’s commitment to deliver infrastructure that supports community sports and elite competition.”
The new floor significantly improves the Silverdome’s ability to attract major sporting and entertainment events, generating economic benefits for businesses and the visitor economy.
Stadiums Tasmania Chief Executive Officer, James Avery, said the Grand Final provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the investment.
“The Tasmania Netball League Grand Final is one of the highlights of the local sporting calendar and we’re delighted to see the new sports floor unveiled in time for this premier competition,” Mr Avery said.
“The new sports floor provides a first-class playing surface capable of supporting a wide variety of sports and events for many years to come.
“The Silverdome has long been an important community asset and this redevelopment will ensure it continues to serve northern Tasmania well into the future.”
The redevelopment remains on track and on budget, with completion scheduled for September 2026.
