Nillumbik Shire Council’s new Economic Development Strategy for 2020-2030 is now available online.

Council is committed to sustainable economic development across the Shire with a focus on four key objectives. The four objectives of the draft strategy are to:

  1. Improve economic development practices to assist local businesses
  2. Create vibrant activity centres and employment precincts in Eltham and Diamond Creek
  3. Facilitate economically and environmentally sustainable use of land within the Shire’s green wedge
  4. Showcase Nillumbik’s visitor, recreation and cultural economy.

Mayor Karen Egan said Council will capitalise on our strengths to grow the economy through advocacy, collaboration, partnerships, and innovation, compatible with the Shire’s unique natural environment.

“Our vision for the Strategy is to promote and support growth and make real changes to create opportunities for local businesses, so we can strengthen our local economy and improve the lives of residents,” Cr Egan said.

Adopted by Council in June, the strategy outlines practical actions to support growth and investment across the Shire and outlines a framework on how Council will support this development.

“We’re very aware our local businesses are being hit hard and whilst we need to be focusing on the economic impacts of the current climate in the short-term, these strategies will be paramount in the recovery process and building economic resilience over time,” Cr Egan said.
