New Tasmanian Producer’s Directory celebrates paddock to plate

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

The Tasmanian Liberal Goverment is working closely with communities and stakeholders to support a greater focus on preventative health and wellbeing.

Today I launched Eat Well Tasmania’s Tasmanian Producer’s Directory, which supports the Government’s approach to prioritising early intervention and empowering Tasmanians to improve their own health.

Eat Well Tasmania’s new online Producer’s Directory showcases hundreds of Tasmania’s finest local producers and provides a one-stop shop where everyone – be it home cooks, chefs, wholesalers, retailers, or producers – can see what’s available, when and where to get their hands on local produce, and inspiration for how to enjoy it.

In a recent survey about seasonality in Tasmania, 99 per cent of respondents said that they want to buy, cook and enjoy more seasonal Tasmanian produce.

The directory aims to connect Tasmanians to the food source, making it possible for producers to grow their business, and making it easier for Tasmanians to access local healthy produce.

Ensuring our produce is accessible is a win for our health, a win for the economy, and a key part of our preventative health strategy.

We want all Tasmanians to live healthier and longer lives – it’s better for themselves, the community and the economy, which is why we are firmly focused on delivering the next Healthy Tasmania Five Year Strategic Plan to secure Tasmania’s future.

Eat Well Tasmania’s Producer’s Directory is a great example of a community-led initiative coming to fruition that will support Tasmanians to live longer and healthier lives.
