Visitors to the popular Howqua Hills Historic Area can now enjoy the convenience of upgraded toilets.
Parks Victoria has replaced four toilet blocks at Sheepyard Flat North, Sheepyard Flat South, Fry’s Flat North and Fry’s Flat South, improving visitor amenities, accessibility and environmental outcomes across the well-loved camping area.
New toilets help make Howqua Hills a great convenient base for visitors to explore this part of Victoria’s beautiful alpine high country.
The new facilities include an all-abilities toilet at each location, making the campgrounds more accessible for a wider range of visitors. New rainwater tanks have also been installed so people can wash their hands at each site.
The project replaced ageing infrastructure, with three of the four former toilet blocks dating back to the 1980’s and no longer meeting current environmental requirements. The new designs are sustainable, easy to maintain and compliant with EPA standards, helping to protect the area’s natural values while improving the visitor experience.
The new toilets have been funded from Victoria’s Great Outdoors, the Victorian Government’s $106.6 million program to improve campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.
Parks Victoria worked with Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC) and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action to deliver the upgrades.
