New Upgrades Boost Boating Across Gippsland Lakes

VIC Premier

More boaters are set to enjoy completed upgrades and facilities at popular boating spots in Gippsland, with new funding making a day on the water easier and more enjoyable across the region this summer, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos today announced the completion of a major ramp upgrade at Metung’s Shaving Point and a new destination jetty and all abilities access at Lakes Entrance, made possible through the reinvestment of boaters’ registration and license fees through the Better Boating Fund.

A new two-lane boat ramp with a grooved concrete surface and new fixed structure jetty with wave panels and a new floating pontoon at Metung’s Shaving Point is making boating more accessible for local and visiting boaters for generations to come.

In Lakes Entrance, a new destination jetty on the Cunninghame Arm will bolster the region’s standing as one of the state’s most popular boating destinations, with boaters able to tie up for a quick pit stop or stay for up to 48 hours in designated spaces. Located opposite Bulmer Street, the new jetty will bring more visitors to the town’s center.

This project is one of the many boating facility upgrades across Lakes Entrance including Myers Street jetty and a recently upgraded North Arm boat ramp, near Bullock Island.

An all-abilities accessible gangway will also be installed by the end of the year at the nearby Apex Park ramp thanks to a $118,000 grant from the Better Boating Fund, so all boaters can make the most of the region.

As stated by Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos

“The Gippsland Lakes region is a boating paradise so we’re investing in better boat ramps, parking and jetties so more people can enjoy this great part of our state.”

As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh

“The ramp upgrade here at Metung will make starting your day on the water easier whether you’re taking some mates out for a fish or cruising through our beautiful lakes with the family.”
