Residents are the big winners with the launch of My DRC Waste Vouchers which give eligible households the opportunity to choose how they want to dispose of excess waste.
Dubbo Regional Council has launched MyDRC Waste Vouchers, replacing the previous one Tipping Voucher and one Bulky Collection Voucher default. Residents on two and three bin services can keep one of each, convert both vouchers to Bulky Rubbish Collections, or keep both as Tipping Vouchers.
The change follows a Council decision to continue the pre-booked Bulky Rubbish Collection service until June 2028. The service has run as a trial for two years, with 5,765 collections booked by residents in that time.
Director Development and Environment Steve Jennings said the new system gave residents control that didn’t exist before.
“In the feedback we received, households told us the old system didn’t always suit them so now they can choose what works for their situation. For residents who find it hard to get to a Waste and Recycling Facility, being able to book two Bulky Rubbish Collections a year will make a difference.”
Mr Jennings said the pre-booked Bulky Rubbish Collection trial over the past two years had shown strong take up from residents, while also helping divert waste from landfill.
“We’ve received some good feedback from residents who have used the pre-booked system, and this is another way of making it accessible for more residents at different times of the year.
“The collections are made on an area-based system, so residents have many opportunities during the year to select a date and leave their rubbish on the kerbside for collection. However, they also have the same opportunity to take it direct to a Waste and Recycling Facility, or to a transfer station at a time that suits them.” Mr Jennings said.
All eligible residents will receive two Tipping Vouchers through the MyDRC Waste Portal. Residents who want to convert a voucher to a Bulky Rubbish Collection can do so through the portal, choosing a collection date based on their location.
Residents with a booked Bulky Rubbish Collection can place up to one box trailer of rubbish on the kerbside from the Sunday before their collection week.
The two-voucher system will remain in place until 2028, when Council will review the program alongside the renewal of its Waste Services contract.
Around 21,500 residences across the region are eligible for the service, including rental properties.
Council is encouraging tenants to login to the My DRC Waste Portal and sign up to see what services their property is eligible for this financial year.
