New website and portal make it easier to access housing assistance

Tasmanians seeking housing support now have a new, more convenient way to find information and apply for support.

From today, the Housing Connect Portal will give Tasmanians greater choice about how, where and when they access and update their information and apply for services.

Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the Portal is an important step in modernising the way people access housing assistance in Tasmania.

“Digital is the way of the future. The Portal will make it easier for Tasmanians to understand what housing services are available, check their eligibility and apply for assistance,” Minister Vincent said.

“The Portal allows people to do this at a time that best suits their circumstances, meaning they aren’t limited to seeking help only during business hours.”

Through the Portal, people will be able to access information about housing assistance options, test their eligibility, submit applications for support, including for social housing, and provide updates about their circumstances and personal information.

Existing Housing Connect service users will also be able to manage and update their information online to make sure their current circumstances are accurately reflected.

“This is about making the process more convenient and giving people more choice in how they engage with Housing Connect,” Minister Vincent said.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’re continuing to build houses, unlock shovel-ready land and make sure we’re putting roofs over heads.”

The Portal has been designed particularly for people with low or no support needs who are able to manage their housing assistance online. People with moderate to high support needs can continue to access face-to-face Housing Connect services and personalised support, while also being encouraged to update their information online where appropriate.

“Importantly, the Portal complements rather than replaces the existing Housing Connect front door locations and 1800 number. People who need face-to-face support will continue to have access to those services,” Minister Vincent said.
