Next Major Step For New Northside Hospital

The ACT Government is building the health infrastructure our growing city needs with the next step towards delivering a new more than $1 billion hospital in Canberra’s north.

Expressions of interest are now open for suitably experienced and qualified contractors to work in partnership with the ACT Government to deliver a new northside hospital on the North Canberra Hospital campus in Bruce.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said the tender is an exciting opportunity to be part of Canberra’s largest ever health infrastructure project.

“The ACT Government is making record investments in the public health system to ensure Canberrans have access to the right care, in the right time and at the right place,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

“The new Critical Services Building at the Canberra Hospital will be opening in August, providing Canberrans with a new emergency department, more operating theatres and a bigger Intensive Care Unit.

“At the same time, we are progressing work on the Northside Hospital Project.

“Canberra’s northside will continue to grow in the coming decades. Planning now for a bigger, modern hospital will provide Canberrans with access to more health services, closer to home.”

The ACT Government is seeking a delivery partner to support the Territory on early planning, design and constructability for the project, as part of a very early contractor involvement (VECI) delivery model.

This will be a two-stage process. Following assessment of the Expressions of Interest, the ACT Government will invite shortlisted tenderers to respond to the Request for Tender stage. The Request for Tender stage will include an interactive process to resolve an appropriate risk sharing regime to reflect the best value for money proposition for the Territory.

Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said the ACT Government is seeking a partner who shares the Government’s vison for a modern hospital with patients and staff at the centre of the design.

“The new northside hospital will deliver a welcoming and world-class facility that replaces the ageing infrastructure on the Bruce campus. It will have more treatment spaces, a bigger emergency department and state-of-the-art equipment for our workforce,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

“Most importantly, it will provide greater capacity for our health care system and ensure Canberrans can continue to access quality public healthcare across the ACT as our population grows and health needs change.”
