Next Phase Of Upgrades For Erindale Leisure Centre

The ACT Government has invested $1.1 million to deliver immediate upgrades and long-term planning for the Erindale Leisure Centre.

Driven by community feedback captured earlier this year, the next phase of works delivers more immediate benefits to the centre’s users while planning for future upgrades and improvements gets underway.

This includes a substantial refurbishment and modernisation of the gym and fitness area, with all new equipment complemented by an interior refresh including flooring, lighting, and painting. Accessibility improvements will also see the installation of automatic doors.

Members have consistently identified improvements to gym facilities as a top priority, and the Government expects these upgrades will allow for growth in membership and utilisation.

The package progresses design development and planning required to secure the facilities long-term future. This includes improvements to the changerooms, steam room, and structural infrastructure such as the roof.

Community feedback also highlighted a strong desire for members to help shape the centre’s ongoing improvements. To support this, $197,000 has been set aside to directly fund smaller scale capital upgrades as requested by users.

This investment from the 2026/27 budget delivers on ACT Labor’s plan for Tuggeranong and follows the $350,000 of improvements completed since mid-2025. These recently completed works include an upgraded UV filtration system to guarantee high water quality, upgraded LED lighting in the squash courts, and improvements to bathroom and changeroom facilities.

Equipment replacement and refurbishment will be delivered by Belgravia which has managed the Erindale Leisure Centre since August 2025.

Located in Wanniassa, the Erindale Leisure Centre features two group fitness studios, a 25-metre heated indoor pool, a steam room, squash courts and a versatile multi-purpose sports hall catering to basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer. The Centre also includes an 80-seat theatrette, a fully equipped function room for up to 70 guests and a professional 443-seat theatre.

Quotes attributable to Taimus Werner-Gibbings MLA, Member for Brindabella:

“The Erindale Leisure Centre is one of Tuggeranong’s most valued community facilities. That’s why I and so many of my fellow users fought to make its upgrade a key commitment in ACT Labor’s 2024 Plan for Tuggeranong.

“I welcome this funding from the ACT Government. Improving community spaces for local families, swimmers, gym goers, sporting groups, juniors and seniors to stay active and connected is an investment in the health and wellbeing of Tuggeranong.

“As a local MLA, I am always arguing for Tuggeranong to receive its fair share of investment. I’m happy to see the ACT Government meeting another of its commitments to Tuggeranong and applaud the Centre’s users for their dedication and advocacy. I look forward to working with them as these designs take shape as well as on future upgrades to the Centre.”
