If you’ve ever dreamed of a career managing an AFL-standard sporting venue, the City of Launceston may have an opportunity for you.

The City of Launceston this week advertised nine new apprenticeship positions; the largest single apprenticeship intake at the Council in more than 20 years.

The Council is seeking candidates for an apprenticeship mechanic, two civil construction positions, and five horticulturalist positions — as well as an apprentice grounds person for UTAS Stadium.

The Council hopes these positions will create new pathways and opportunities for people interested in exploring horticulture, mechanical and vehicle maintenance, civil construction, and grounds keeping and sports facility maintenance.

City of Launceston Chief Executive Michael Stretton said it was exciting to see new career pathways being opened up.

“Perhaps I’m biased, but I sincerely believe local government is one of the most exciting and diverse sectors you can work in,” Mr Stretton said.

“It provides concrete opportunities to make the world a better place at a grassroots level, working in partnership with people from many different backgrounds.

“We think these apprenticeship positions will be very attractive to younger people looking to get into the workforce, people with established careers who may be looking for a change of pace, or people who simply want to learn new skills.

“The City of Launceston is a recognised Employer of Choice and the breadth of our operations — maintaining everything from swimming pools to street sweepers — means there are so many opportunities to develop and grow professionally and personally in your local government career.”

Information on the apprenticeship positions and details on how to apply can be found on the ‘Careers’ section of the City of Launceston website.

Applications close on Monday, December 14.
