No Interest Loans Scheme supports 20,000th recipient

Will Hodgman,Premier

The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) today issued its 20,000th loan to assist Tasmanian families with the cost of living.

NILS enables Tasmanians on low incomes to get affordable loans with no interest, fees or charges, aimed at helping with the cost of living. Currently, NILS offers micro-finance loans of between $300 and $1200, which can be accessed to assist in buying new items and services, including education essentials, household goods, vehicle related costs, medical costs and equipment.

Micro-business loans of $300 to $3,000 are available to assist in covering costs related to starting or growing a business, such as insurance, business registration, and equipment.

The Tasmanian Government supports NILS through funding from the Department of State Growth, Department of Communities, and Aurora Energy.

The NILS Network of Tasmania partners with many community based organisations to administer loans, making the process of applying easily accessible for all Tasmanians, including those living in more rural and remote communities.

We congratulate NILS on their support for Tasmanian families and look forward to continuing to work with them.
