Nominations open for 2019 Access Awards

Nominations
for the 2019 Tamworth Access Awards are now open. Event organisers are calling
on residents to nominate businesses and individuals who make the Region more
accessible to all people in the community.

Tamworth
Regional Council Access Awards are open to any local project that has
endeavoured to improve accessibility in the lives of people living with
disability.

The Awards
category is intentionally wide to provide an opportunity for projects such as
initiatives, prototypes, research projects, online content and anything else
that is making a difference in improving access to be considered for an award.

Tamworth
Regional Council Manager Culture & Community Services, Kay Delahunt said
she knows that there are many worthy nominees out in our Tamworth region, but
it’s up to the community to nominate them.

“There are so
many people doing amazing things to ensure our community is more accessible.
Now’s the time that we can recognise them and ensure that their efforts don’t
go unnoticed.

“It’s so
important for us to ensure that our Region is accessible to all residents and
visitors, and that we advocate for those members of our community who have a
disability”.

In previous
years we saw the Powerhouse Tamworth take out the Business Awards section with
staff volunteering their time to give quality training to people who have a
keen interest in the hospitality industry. Individual award winners were Joy
Carr and Shirley Ryan, both working on the Esi Access walkway in Nundle.

To nominate,
pick up a nomination form at any Council Office, or download a form by visitingwww.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/access-awards
and return via post, email or in person to Tamworth Regional Council.
Nominations close on Tuesday 12 November, 2019.

Awards will be presented during the International Day of
People with Disability Celebration at Tamworth Community Centre on Friday, 6
December 2019.
