Nominations Open For 2027 Citizen Of Year Awards

City of Mount Gambier is encouraging community members to recognise the people, groups and events that make a positive difference locally, with nominations now open for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.

Presented as part of the City of Mount Gambier’s Australia Day celebrations, the annual awards acknowledge individuals and organisations whose contributions help make Mount Gambier a vibrant, connected and welcoming place to live.

City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said the awards provide an important opportunity to celebrate the efforts of those who contribute to the wellbeing and success of the community.

“Across our community there are countless people who generously give their time, skills and energy to support others and make Mount Gambier a better place to live,” Mayor Martin said.

“The Citizen of the Year Awards shine a light on the individuals, groups and event organisers whose contributions have a lasting impact on our community, often without seeking recognition.”

“Whether through volunteering, mentoring, organising events, supporting community initiatives or helping others in times of need, these contributions strengthen community connections and enhance the quality of life for everyone.”

Mayor Martin encouraged residents to think about the people who have made a genuine difference and take the time to nominate them.

“Many deserving people work quietly behind the scenes and may never expect to be acknowledged for what they do. These awards provide an opportunity for our community to say thank you and celebrate their efforts.”

Unsuccessful nominees from previous years may also be re-nominated for consideration.

Past recipients have been recognised for contributions across a broad range of areas including community service, education, health, sport, arts and culture, environmental initiatives, charitable work, business and projects that promote community wellbeing.

Nominations are open for the following categories:

  • Young Citizen of the Year, for a person under 30 years of age on 26 January 2027
  • Citizen of the Year, for a person aged 30 years or older on 26 January 2027

  • Community Event of the Year, for an event staged during 2026
