Nominees announced for Lismore’s Australia Day Awards

Lismore City Council has announced some of the nominees for this year’s Australia Day Awards, with the winners to be announced at the Australia Day and New Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday, 26 January at Lismore City Hall.

Mayor Steve Krieg said the Awards are the community’s opportunity to recognise and thank those who freely give their time and energy to make Lismore and its villages an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

“I would like to congratulate all the nominees in this year’s Australia Day Awards. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner in each category, but they all have done a great deal over the last 12 months to help our community through one of the most difficult times many of us can remember. For that, I say Thank You!,” he said.

“Volunteers are the glue that holds our community together, so it is very fitting that we recognise and thank them on Australia Day for the great work they do,” he said.

“Australia Day is a wonderful day of celebration for our community and country. It is a day we acknowledge the First Australians and their wonderful history and spiritual connection to our land, and a day we celebrate the successful multicultural society that we are.

“I urge all members of the community to come along to our Australia Day celebrations to acknowledge our Awards nominees and winners and to welcome our 27 new citizens from 15 countries.”

The nominees are:

  • Citizen of the Year – Ron and Lyne Chittick, and Di Lymbury
  • Services in the Community (Individual) – Ron and Lyne Chittick, Lucinda Dyason, Dr Amin Eslam, Allan Fry, Dr Amina Khatun and Di Lymbury
  • Services in the Community (Group) – SCU Muslim Student’s Society and U3A Northern Rivers Lismore Inc
