Tasmania Police are disappointed that 12 North-West motorists were detected committing alcohol and drug driving offences over this past weekend.
“Tasmania Police is committed to making our roads as safe as possible and urge motorists to do the right thing following these offences which were detected in the Burnie, Devonport, Ulverstone, and Queenstown areas, as part of a traffic operation focusing on late night mobile random interceptions of motorists,” said Acting Inspector Nick Clark.
Nine drivers were detected exceeding 0.05%.
- Five were between 0.051% – 0.099%
- Two were between 0.100% – 0.150%
- There were also two high range readings above 0.150%, the highest being 0.224%
- Two of those nine drivers are also facing charges Driving Under the Influence of alcohol.
A further three drivers were detected by police with illicit drugs in their system.
“The Enough is Enough Road Safety Campaign began in May 2022 as part of Tasmania Police’s commitment to making our roads as safe as possible,” said Acting Inspector Clark.
“Driving after the consumption of alcohol and/or drugs are two of the primary causes of fatal and serious crashes, and this weekend’s results are disappointing given publicity around the current road safety campaign.
“Motorists are reminded that police may be anywhere at any time and that there will be an ongoing focus upon detecting drivers who commit any of the Fatal Five Offences.”
