Northern drug investigation update

A 38 year old Newstead man and a 26 year old Mowbray woman remain in custody assisting police following a major police operation in Launceston yesterday targeting drug trafficking.

A 28 year old Kings Meadows man was charged with minor drug offences and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.

About 60 members of Northern Drug Investigation Services and CIB, supported by general and specialist police including drug detection dogs, simultaneously executed a number of search warrants at a number of addresses in the Launceston area yesterday.

Today, police continued to search a number of residences and business premises in the Launceston area.

Significant seizures have been made as a result of the ongoing investigation. This includes:

  • Traffickable quantity of drugs, including ICE, heroin, MDMA and cannabis
  • More than $150,000 in cash
  • Taser weapons

The searches relate to an extensive ongoing investigation targeting the organised trafficking of illicit drugs including crystal methylamphetamine (ICE) in Tasmania.
