Northern suburbs pusuit ends in arrest

A man and a woman have been arrested following a pursuit with a stolen car through the northern suburbs last night.

Just before 5.30pm on Wednesday 13 December, Northern District patrols were alerted to people behaving suspiciously in parklands near Malta Drive at Parafield Gardens.

Police arrived in the area and located a white Nissan four wheel drive, stationary in a park and pulled up behind it. Two people were seen to run and get into the car. The vehicle then reversed into the police fleet two times before taking off and heading north on the wrong side of Port Wakefield Road.

The car was pursued onto Bolivar Road and was last seen heading north on Liberator Drive.

Patrols then sighted the vehicle heading north on Diment Road and south onto Whites Road.

PolAir took over the chase and followed the car as it travelled through Direk and Salisbury North, and saw it being driven on the incorrect side of Port Wakefield Road and into Virginia.

The car was tracked as it travelled at speed and headed onto Old Port Wakefield Road. It made its way to Park Road where two people exited the car and ran into a nearby home.

Police swooped on the property and arrested a 32-year-old woman from Two Wells. She was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, act likely to cause harm, driving without due care, driving at a speed dangerous, illegal use and property damage.

A 35-year-old man from Virginia was charged with illegal use, dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, driving at a speed dangerous and failing to hold a licence.

Both parties were refused police bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court today Thursday 14 December.

The police fleet received damage to the passenger side of the vehicle however the officers were not injured as a result of the crash.

Checks revealed the vehicle was stolen last week from a Modbury North address.
