Notice to appear – Animal cruelty in Alice Springs

A 67-year-old man has been served with a Notice to Appear before the Alice Springs Local Court after officers found animal traps in the yard of an Alice Springs property at the weekend.

Police responded to a report from a member of the public who had located her pet cat trapped in the yard of a Sadadeen home on Sunday afternoon.

It is alleged the occupant of the home refused the woman entry to retrieve her animal.

The man was served with a Notice to Appear on one count each of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and Possess Steel Jaw traps contrary to the Animal Welfare Act.

He is scheduled to appear before court on October 27, 2020.

Police have information which indicates other domestic pets had been trapped in the area prior to this incident, and are calling for anyone who has information which may assist with investigations to contact them on 131 444
