Now is time to shape future of cancer control

Cancer Australia

Cancer Australia is urging people to share their vision for the Australian Cancer Plan (ACP) by contributing to the public consultation before it closes on March 4th, 2022. The first national 10-year plan aims to set a transformative agenda to accelerate world class cancer outcomes for all Australians affected by cancer.

Cancer touches every family and every individual in their lifetime, sometimes more than once. Two in five people in Australia will be diagnosed with cancer by age of 85. 413 people a day were diagnosed with cancer last year and there are over 1 million people alive in Australia who are either currently living with or have lived with cancer.

“Cancer is a leading cause of disease and death in Australia. This is our chance to make a difference and deliver a ground-breaking national plan to identify and address critical issues that need collaborative, coordinated and national action,” said Professor Dorothy Keefe, CEO Cancer Australia.

“In order to build a holistic picture of opportunities to improve cancer outcomes for all Australians, we need as much input as possible, from every sector and every region in Australia. I encourage people to submit your contributions in the next two weeks.”

This will be an inclusive plan to address inequities and priorities across the whole cancer journey for key population groups now and in the future.

Insights and input from people working in all areas of cancer control and those affected by cancer will be critical to the ACP.

“We’re keen to hear ambitious and transformational ideas – so be bold and think big!”

The development process for the ACP will involve comprehensive and inclusive engagement and consultation with stakeholders across the cancer control continuum to support co-design, and the establishment of national governance, ongoing implementation and accountability for outcomes to support the development of the ACP.

Cancer Australia will develop the Australian Cancer Plan by 2023.
