Wollongong City Council’s 2027 recruitment for cadet, apprentice, trainee and school-based trainee positions is open.

There are 20 roles on offer at Wollongong City Council with the opportunities open to those finishing school, looking to change careers, returning to the workforce or looking to take the next step in their working life.

The opportunities are across a wide range of Council services and functions and provide the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications while you earn a wage and gain practical workplace experience.

“We know that cadet, apprentice, trainee and school-based trainee positions are very highly sought-after roles and we anticipate there will be a lot of interest in what is on offer for 2027,” Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.

“This is because there is an understanding within our community that Council is a great place to work. We’ve a reputation for good working conditions, rewarding career opportunities and a real focus on developing the next generation of civil servants who come from diverse backgrounds and are driven in their desire to do good for our community. These varied roles are, as we say, the opportunity to ‘Start Something Great’.”

* Customer Service Officer Trainee (Memorial Gardens)

* Grounds & Maintenance Trainee (Tourist Parks)

* Rates Trainee

* Regulation and Compliance Trainee

A number of the opportunities support Council’s commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce, including opportunities for women in non-traditional roles, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and People with disability.

The targeted roles are:

  • Greenkeeping Apprentice – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. x1

There is a free online information session on Tuesday 11 August from 5.30-6.30pm for people who are keen to know more about the opportunities and the application process.
