NSW latest bulli Hospital upgrades improving aged and rehabilitation care for the Illawarra community

Bulli Hospital will increase its capacity to care for the community, with a series of purpose-built expansions now underway as part of the more than $700 million New Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project.

Minister for Health Ryan Park was today joined by Member for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart to tour the expansion works at Bulli.

Minister Park said the refurbishment will enable patients to be treated in a modern first-class health facility, which will include a new outpatient rehabilitation gym and two new inpatient wards.

“This important piece of new health infrastructure will further improve and expand rehabilitation and geriatric services at Bulli, and allow for the aging facility at Port Kembla Hospital to close and see patients being treated in modern and fit-for-purpose spaces,” Mr Park said.

“These refurbishment works will provide patients with access to a modern rehabilitation gym, as well as spacious rooms with large light filled windows and beautiful views up to the escarpment.

“Bulli Hospital is an important part of the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s network of health services. These refurbishments will cement its place as a leading facility in rehabilitation and aged care services.”

Refurbishments at Bulli Hospital are on track to be completed later this year.

Member for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart said the works will greatly benefit the local community.

“These works ensure patients in Bulli and the northern suburbs receive their treatment in fit-for-purpose clinical spaces,” Ms Stuart said.

The more than $700 million New Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project will also deliver a new hospital in Dunmore, upgrades to Wollongong Hospital and a new community health centre that will be built on a portion of the Port Kembla Hospital campus.

“These works will further strengthen the range of health services offered by the local health district” Mr Park said.
