NSW latest key Health Worker Accommodation boost for Mudgee

Frontline health staff will be able to access safe and contemporary accommodation in Mudgee with the commencement of work on key health worker accommodation project at the Mudgee Health Service.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the accommodation will be a welcome support for both local and visiting health staff.

“This project will deliver safe, comfortable accommodation for health workers while they provide services to the hospital and in the Mudgee community,” Mr Park said.

“Healthcare staff work busy shifts both day and night, so providing access to accommodation which meets their needs is extremely important.

“This project is vital because we know that affordable, accessible accommodation is critical to attracting staff in regional and rural areas.

“As Minister for Regional Health I am really pleased to see projects which support our healthcare staff like this taking shape across the state.”

The accommodation will consist of:

  • Two apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms
  • Two apartments with one-bedroom
  • Two apartments with two bedrooms

These units will be located on hospital grounds and have been designed with safety, liveability and comfort at front of mind.

They will be equipped with all the necessities including kitchenettes, comfortable living areas and ensuite bathrooms.

Mudgee Health Service Manager Kylie Strong said the construction is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

“This will allow visiting doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and more a safe and comfortable place to stay while working with us at the hospital,” Ms Strong said.

While construction is underway helicopter retrievals will be diverted using the same procedures as were in place during construction of the new Mudgee Hospital.

The provision of accommodation for key health workers is a major component of the District’s strategy to support and build the Western NSW health workforce, including additional projects at Warren, Collarenebri, Walgett, Baradine, Condobolin, Tullamore, Narromine, Trundle and Wellington.
