NSW man charged over alleged abusive emails targeted at Commonwealth official

A Sydney man has faced Parramatta Local Court today (24 June, 2026), charged with allegedly sending offensive emails to a Commonwealth official.

The AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in May 2026, after a series of emails were sent to a Commonwealth official between February and May 2026.

Police linked the man, 43, to the alleged abusive emails and arrested him at a Wentworthville home yesterday (23 June, 2026).

The man was charged with one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 474.1(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).

The maximum penalty for this offence is five years’ imprisonment.

The man was formally refused bail and remanded to next appear in Parramatta Local Court on 15 July, 2026.
