NSW police appeal after sexual assault, attempted kidnapping at Wollongong

Police are appealing for information following an alleged sexual assault and attempted kidnapping in Wollongong earlier this year.

Shortly after 2am on Sunday 7 April 2019, a 19-year-old woman was walking along Station Street, North Wollongong, when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly drove past the woman in a silver sedan before coming to a stop a short distance away.

The man left his vehicle and ran towards the woman, before allegedly sexually touching her and pulling her towards his vehicle.

The woman was able to release the man’s grip by punching him in the face.

Police allege the man told the woman it was a case of mistaken identity before he left the scene.

Police hold fears the man may have committed similar offences elsewhere and are appealing for any possible victims to contact Wollongong Detectives on (02) 4226 7899.

The man is described as 25 to 40 years of age with a tanned completion, approximately 170cm to 175cm tall, of a medium build, bald, dark defined eyebrows and he was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and shorts at the time of the alleged offence.

Police inquiries are continuing.
