NSW police arrest five over kidnapping

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have arrested five men following an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of one man, and conspiracy to kidnap another, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore last month.

About 12pm on Thursday 14 October 2021, a 20-year-old man was allegedly confronted by two men at Gore Creek Reserve at Greenwich, before being forced into a car and travelling to an unknown location.

Police have been told the man was threatened then assaulted, before being released.

The incident was later reported to officers from North Shore Police Area Command, who commenced inquiries.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad were notified and took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Bindowan.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives, with assistance from the Tactical Operation Unit (TOU), arrested four men – aged between 27 and 33 – at a service station on Victoria Road at West Ryde, just before 2pm yesterday (Friday 5 November 2021).

A 32-year-old Eastwood man was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage (conspiracy to commit offence).

A 31-year-old Lindfield man and a 27-year-old Eastwood man were taken to Ryde Police Station where they were charged.

The older man has been charged with take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage (conspiracy to commit offence), and a second charge of take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage; the younger man has been charged with take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage (conspiracy to commit offence).

Shortly after 2pm, investigators executed a search warrant at a home unit at Macquarie Park, with police seizing several items alleged to be relevant to the investigation.

A fifth man, aged 24, was arrested at the property and taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with five offences:

• Take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage

• Take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage (conspiracy to commit offence)

• Possess/use offensive weapon with permit

• Supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity)

• Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

All four were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 6 November 2021).

The 33-year-old man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment for a dog bite and remains there under guard.
