NSW police arrest four over Sydney CBD attacks

Four people have been arrested after several people were injured during separate incidents in Sydney’s CBD overnight.

About 2.40am (Wednesday Tuesday 31 December 2019), emergency services were called to George Street, near Central Street, following reports a man had been stabbed.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and found a 35-year-old man had been stabbed in the back outside a hotel in Albion Place, Sydney.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

In a separate incident about 4.15am, emergency services were called to Goulburn Street, near Sussex Street, Haymarket, after reports of a brawl.

Police have been told two men approached a 26-year-old man and punched him in the face. A woman then attempted to steal a handbag the man was carrying before hitting him with a shoe.

A 21-year-old man – who came to the victim’s aid – was also assaulted, then stabbed in the back.

A 29-year-old woman, attempting to get her handbag back, was assaulted by the woman.

The two injured men (21 and 26), were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. The woman did not require treatment.

Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incidents that are believed to be linked, and following extensive inquiries, arrested three men; two aged 26, one aged 20, and a 31-year-old woman in Kent Street just after 1pm today (Wednesday 1 January 2019).

All four have been taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
