NSW police arrest man after attempted armed robbery at Wollongong

A man has been charged after attempting to rob a Wollongong real estate yesterday afternoon.

Around 4pm (Friday 23 August 2019), a 36-year-old male entered a real estate on Crown Street, Wollongong.

The man then allegedly demanded cash from a female employee and threatened her with what she believed to be a home-made firearm.

The employee was joined by female colleague, who both stressed that no cash was ever kept on the premises.

After continuing to threaten the women, the man left the real estate without any money. The women then called for police.

Officers from Wollongong Police District began investigations and shortly after arrested the man at Wollongong Train Station.

Following a search of the man, a number of items were seized including a metal object, similar to the one described by the employee.

The man was then transported to Wollongong Police Station and charged with Robbery Armed With An Offensive Implement.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 24 August 2019).
