NSW police arrest man after attempted robbery, car-jacking in Sydney’s south west

A man is under police guard in hospital after being arrested following an attempted robbery and car-jacking in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 1.30pm (Sunday 28 June 2020), a 26-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle in a car park on Parkers Farm Place, Casula, when she was approached by an unknown man.

Police have been told the man attempted to take the woman’s car keys and mobile phone from her hand unsuccessfully, before he ran away.

A short time later, a 57-year-old man was standing next to a Chrysler People Mover in a car park on Orange Grove Road, Liverpool, when the unknown man allegedly entered the driver’s seat.

At the time, three children – aged three and 21-month-old twins – were asleep in the vehicle in their car restraints.

It’s alleged the man reversed the Chrysler into an unattended parked car, before exiting and running away.

The 26-year-old man was detained by members of the public in the car park area before officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended.

He was arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital where he remains under police guard.

Crime scenes have been established which will be examined by specialist forensic officers.

Inquiries are continuing.
