NSW police arrest man after fatal house fire at Bomaderry

A man has been arrested after a man died in a deliberately lit house fire on the state’s south coast overnight.

About 10.40pm (Friday 31 July 2020), emergency services responded to reports of a break-in and fire at a home on Leonard Street, Bomaderry, north of Nowra.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and found the home well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze, which had destroyed the home and a nearby vehicle.

A 49-year-old man was pulled from the home unresponsive. Despite CPR attempts by paramedics, he died at the scene.

A second male occupant was able to flee the home. He was uninjured.

A crime scene was established which has been examined by specialist forensic police.

About 12.35pm today (Saturday 1 August 2020), officers attended a home on the same street and arrested a 26-year-old man.

He has been taken to Nowra Police Station, where he is assisting with inquiries.
