NSW police arrest man over assault at Wollongong

A man has been arrested over the alleged assault of a man in the state’s Illawarra region at the weekend.

About 2.40am on Sunday (22 January 2023), emergency services were called to Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports a man had been found unconscious on the footpath.

Initial inquiries suggest the man was punched in the head and fell to the ground.

The 24-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital before he self-discharged and travelled to Brisbane, where he attended the Prince Charles Hospital.

Scans revealed the man sustained head injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation and following inquiries, including a public appeal for information, a 19-year-old man was arrested after attending Wollongong Police Station about 3.20pm today (Tuesday 24 January 2023).
