NSW police charge five after cash and drugs seized

Five people have been charged after police seized cash and drugs during search warrants in Sydney’s west yesterday.

Earlier this month, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced investigations into the alleged large-scale distribution of illicit drugs in the area.

Following extensive inquiries by Fairfield City detectives with the assistance of State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, simultaneous search warrants were executed with the assistance of Raptor Squad officers at five units within the same block on Arbutus Street, Canley Heights.

Police located a large sum of cash, 2.2kg of cocaine, 1kg of methamphetamine a prohibited weapon, collectible cards estimated to be worth $50,000, identification cards suspected of being stolen, and various other illicit and prescription only drugs.

The estimated potential street value of the drugs seized is approximately $800,000. All items seized will undergo forensic examination.

Four men and two women were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A 27-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity, two counts of deal with property proceeds of crime and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

A second man, aged 27, was charged with deal with property proceeds of crime and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Police will allege in court the drug syndicate was co-ordinated at the units, with the purchase and sale of trading cards used to launder money.

They were both refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 24 August 2022).

A 26-year-old woman was also charged with deal with property proceeds of crime and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

She appeared at Fairfield Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 23 August 2022), where she was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 5 October 2022.

A 31-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, deal with property proceeds of crime and possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance.

The 32-year-old woman was charged with possess prohibited drug, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance and goods suspected stolen in custody of other.

They were both granted strict conditional bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 14 September 2022.

A second man, aged 31, was released pending further investigation.
