NSW police charge man after armed robbery

A man has been charged following an armed robbery on the state’s south coast.

About 6pm yesterday (Friday 24 September 2021), police attended a supermarket on Island Point Road, St Georges Basin, after reports of an armed robbery.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District were told the man threatened a teenage employee with a knife, before fleeing on foot with cash.

He was chased by several witnesses, and with the help of Traffic and Highway Patrol and the Police Dog Squad, they located him hiding in a backyard on St Georges Road.

The man, aged 19, was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 25 September).
