NSW police charge man after body located after fire in Sydney’s south west

A man has been charged after a body was located following a fire on a rural property in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 12.10pm (Monday 12 September 2022), emergency services responded to reports of a grass fire on a rural property near the corner of Cowpasture and Kurrajong Road, Carnes Hill.

Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the fire a short time later, when a body was located near a home on the property.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene which was examined by forensic officers.

A man was located nearby a short time later and arrested.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with improperly interfere with corpse, break and enter with intent to commit serious indictable offence, and remain in building with intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

The 47-year-old man was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today (Tuesday 13 September 2022).

The body is yet to be formally identified.

Investigations into the incident continue.
