NSW police charge man after child approach at Tamworth

A man has been charged following investigations into an alleged child approach in the state’s north-east.

About 9.30am on Monday (2 December 2019), a 15-year-old girl was approached by a man as she walked along Carthage Street at Tamworth.

Police were told the man attempted to instigate conversation with the girl as she walked passed his vehicle which was parked on the side of the road.

It is alleged the man exited the car and grabbed the girl’s backpack, forcibly pulling her backwards.

She ran from the area and police were notified.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 37-year-old man at a home in Tamworth, about 10am yesterday (Tuesday 3 December 2019).

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with common assault and stalk/ intimidate intend fear physical harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 6 January 2020.
