NSW police charge man after deliberately lit house fire at Armidale

A man has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting a house on fire in Armidale.

About 12.45am yesterday (Sunday 11 April 2021), emergency services were called to Allingham Street, following reports a house was well alight.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze, however, it caused extensive damage to the building.

Two people were home at the time, but they were able to escape without injury.

Officers from New England Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic police.

Following inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the blaze, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Marsh Street, Armidale, about 12.20pm yesterday (Sunday 11 April 2021).

He was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with damage property by fire (DV).

The man was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court today (Monday 12 April 2021).
