NSW police charge man after essential equipment stolen from multiple emergency services properties

A man will face court this month after allegedly breaking into a number of emergency services buildings and taking essential rescue equipment in the State’s north earlier this year.

Between January 2022 and March 2022, officers from Hunter Valley Police District’s Rural Crime Prevention Team commenced investigations into five break and enters committed at emergency services premises.

The offences were allegedly committed at premises located on Carrowbrook Road, Mt Olive; Glendonbrook Road, Glendonbrook; Sandy Creek Road, McCully’s Gap; and, Jerrys Plains Road, Denman.

During the incidents, a number of items – including essential rescue equipment – were allegedly stolen.

The emergency services station at Mt Olive was broken into on two separate occasions.

Following extensive investigations, officers executed a search warrant at unit on Corona Street, Mayfield, at 12.30pm on Tuesday 3 May 2022.

It will be alleged that a number of items from the emergency services premises were located in the unit, along with cannabis and two push daggers. All items were seized for forensic examination.

About 7.50am today (Friday 1 July 2022), officers from the Newcastle City Police District Target Action Group and Warrant and Summons section – returned to the unit on Corona Street.

A 37-year-old man was arrested after he attempted to flee the scene by jumping off a second story balcony.

The man, who was uninjured, was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with:

  • two counts of break & enter house etc steal value
  • two counts of enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse,
  • two counts of larceny value>$2000 &
  • enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • two counts of destroy or damage property
  • two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit,
  • possess prohibited drug, and
  • good suspected stolen in/on premises.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 14 July 2022.
