NSW police charge man after firearms, explosives seized at Wellington

A man has been charged with multiple firearm-related offences following the execution of a Firearm Prohibition Order in the state’s Orana Region.

About 8.50am on Tuesday 29 September 2020, detectives attached to Orana Mid Western Police District attended a home on Caves Road at Wellington where they served the occupant, a 34-year-old man, with Firearm and Weapon Prohibition Orders.

Explosives, ammunition, firearm parts, an electrical control device, expandable baton, cannabis seeds and a replica pistol were seized during the search.

After a crime scene warrant was executed further items connected with the manufacture of firearms were seized.

The man was arrested and taken to Wellington Police Station where he was charged with 10 offences:

  • Manufacture firearm
  • Possess unauthorised firearm
  • Possess explosives
  • Manufacture prohibited weapon
  • Possess prohibited weapon
  • Possess firearm barrel
  • Possess unauthorised firearm (pistol)
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Possess ammunition
  • Breach of bail.

The man appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 30 September 2020 where he was granted conditional bail to reappear before Wellington Local Court on Tuesday 20 October 2020.
