NSW police charge man after GBL, cocaine and ‘ice’ found in vehicle intercepted on Mid North Coast

Redfern RES investigators have charged a man with large commercial drug supply offences after seizing GBL, cocaine, ‘ice’ and ketamine during a targeted vehicle stop on the state’s Mid North Coast.

In November last year, investigators from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Elparra to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

About 5.45am on Saturday (11 July 2020), investigators approached a stationary Hyundai Santa Fe at a truck stop on the Pacific Highway, about 60km south of Taree, and spoke to the 59-year-old male driver.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, investigators allegedly located a jerry can containing 20L of GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate), more than 530g of methylamphetamine (ice), more than 110g of cocaine, 125g of ketamine and 210g of an unidentified powder.

All items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

The driver was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, two counts of supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), three counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and possess prohibited drug.

Police will allege in court that the man was involved in the supply of prohibited drugs between February and July this year.

It will be further alleged the man had plans to travel toward Northern NSW when stopped.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Port Macquarie Bail Court yesterday (Sunday 12 July 2020), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Taree Local Court today (Monday 13 July 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Elparra are continuing.

Anyone with information about the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
