NSW police charge man after pursuit, crash in Sydney’s Inner West

A man will face court today following a pursuit and crash in Sydney’s Inner West overnight.

About 11.45pm (Friday 4 December 2020), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol detected a Mazda 3 allegedly travelling at 89km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Western Distributor.

Police attempted to stop the car on The Crescent, Annandale, however, the vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit commenced.

Shortly after, the car crashed into a traffic signal and a stationary car at the intersection of Balmain Road and Perry Street, Lilyfield. The occupants in the stationary car, two 18-year-old women, were uninjured.

The Mazda driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

The East Killara man was charged with police pursuit, drive manner dangerous and drive whilst suspended.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 5 December 2020).
