NSW police charge man after pursuit in stolen vehicle

A man has been charged following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 11am (Friday 7 June 2019), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attempted to stop a Mitsubishi ASX, believed to be stolen, on Fowler Road, Merrylands.

The Mitsubishi failed to stop and, with assistance from Strike Force Raptor Highway Patrol who were proactively patrolling in the area, a police pursuit was initiated.

The occupants in the vehicle, two men aged 32 and 39, exited the vehicle and fled on foot; they were later arrested on May Street, Fairfield, just before 11.30am.

The two men were taken to Fairfield Hospital under police guard for minor injuries.

Later that day, officers from Strike Force Raptor, with assistance from Fairfield City Police Area Command, executed a search warrant at a home on Foxlow Street, Canley Heights.

During the search, officers seized 86g of methylamphetamine, 100 live 9mm rounds, two live .257 rounds, numerous spent cartridges and registration plates that are believed to be stolen.

The 32-year-old man was charged with drive during disqualified period, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, police pursuit, drive recklessly, dishonestly possess interfered with unique identifier, enter enclosed lands and resist arrest.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today.

The 39-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance, possession of prohibited drug and trespass. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice.
