NSW police charge man after sexual assault, acts of indecency at Wollongong

A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged historical sexual assault and acts of indecency in Wollongong.

About 10pm on 5 February 2012, a 22-year-old woman was walking along Ellen Street, Wollongong, when she was allegedly approached from behind by a man.

He allegedly grabbed her before performing an indecent act.

Between 5.45pm and 6.30pm on 1 March 2012, three women were approached by a man in separate incidents around Northfields Avenue Wollongong.

The man acted indecently towards the women on each occasion before fleeing on a bicycle.

Between 2.30am and 3am on 1 January 2014, a 22-year-old woman was walking along Fairy Meadow Beach when she was allegedly grabbed from behind and dragged into nearby bushland by a man.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before she called out to nearby group of people and the man ran from the area.

Detectives from Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Edkin.

Following extensive inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested at a home in West Wollongong shortly after 9am today (Wednesday 25 September 2019).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with four counts of sexual assault, four counts of commit acts of indecency and assault with act of indecency.

He was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 26 September 2019).
