NSW police charge man after stabbing at Albury

A man has been charged following a stabbing in the state’s south.

Shortly before 11pm on Saturday (20 December 2019), emergency services attended a licensed premises on Kiewa Street, Albury, after reports two men had been stabbed nearby and sought assistance.

Officers from Murray River Police District attended and found two men – aged 19 and 42 – suffering multiple stab wounds.

The men were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Albury Base Hospital.

The older man was later transferred to Melbourne Hospital to undergo surgery where he remains in a stable condition. The younger man has since been released.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 24-year-old man at a home in Albury about 12.20pm yesterday (Sunday 22 December 2019).

He was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with two counts of reckless wounding, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, custody of knife in public place and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Albury Local Court today (Monday 23 December 2019).
