NSW police charge man after stabbing at Wollongong 22 December

A man has been charged following a stabbing in Wollongong yesterday.

About 3.45pm (Wednesday 21 December 2022), emergency services were called to Crown Street near Corrimal Street, Wollongong, after reports of an assault.

Police have been told two men were allegedly involved in a physical altercation, before one of the men sustained stab wounds.

The 59-year-old man walked away from the scene and was assisted by members of the public, who contacted police.

He was taken to Wollongong Hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics in a critical but stable condition to undergo surgery.

Police arrived on scene and commenced inquiries, before locating and arresting a 25-year-old man nearby on Ellen Street.

Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possess prohibited drug and custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 22 December 2022).
