NSW police charge man after stolen car police pursuit at Sutherland

A man has been arrested after a police pursuit in a stolen car in Sutherland yesterday.

About 4.10pm on Wednesday 28 August 2019, Sutherland Highway Patrol commenced a pursuit with a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop after speed detection when travelling southbound on the Princes Highway, Heathcote.

The pursuit was terminated shortly after in Waterfall.

The pursuit was initiated again for a short time, when the vehicle turned around and was observed travelling northbound on the Princes Highway.

Soon after, the same vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the Princes Highway in Sutherland. No injuries were reported.

Police arrived on scene and the 23-year-old male driver refused to exit his vehicle. Police smashed a window and the man as removed and arrested. He was conveyed to Sutherland Police Station and participated in mandatory testing.

The 24-year-old was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, resist officer in execution of duty and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 29 August 2019).
