NSW police charge man after taxi drivers robbed at Wagga Wagga

A man will face court tomorrow charged after two taxi drivers were robbed in separate incidents at Wagga Wagga this week.

About 9.30pm on Monday (7 September 2020), a taxi driver was seated at a taxi rank on Lake Albert Road, Kooringal, when a man entered his vehicle, and allegedly produced a knife, demanding cash and cigarettes before fleeing.

Police were notified and officers from Riverina Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a separate incident, a taxi driver was travelling along Edney Street, Kooringal, about 1am today (Wednesday 9 September), when the male passenger told him to pull over.

After he stopped, the passenger allegedly produced a knife and demanded cash before fleeing on foot in a southern direction.

Neither of the taxi drivers were physically injured.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 22-year-old man at the intersection of Heath Street and Hodson Avenue, Turvey Park about 10am today (Wednesday 9 September 2020).

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow Thursday 10 September 2020.
